Coushatta Family Medical Center Holds First Annual Balloon Release Ceremony to Honor Breast Cancer Victims and Survivors

Kinder, LA––On Monday, October 28, 2013, Coushatta Family Medical Center hosted its first annual balloon release ceremony to honor breast cancer survivors and victims during national Breast Cancer Awareness month. A large bouquet of pink balloons swayed in the slight breeze, greeting guests as they arrived.

Billie Bruchhaus, Health Coach at Coushatta Family Medical Center, opened the ceremony with a special prayer for breast cancer victims. Diane Johnson, RN, Case Manager at Coushatta Family Medical Center, gave a brief presentation with information about breast cancer and its effect on the community. Margaret Caesar, Seamstress in the casino’s Uniform department and breast cancer survivor herself, shared the story of her battle against the disease. Following the presentations, audience members each selected a balloon and wrote the name of the person affected by breast cancer that they wanted to honor or memorialize. After Ms. Bruchhaus read the roll call of names written on the balloons, all were released simultaneously to a chorus of “oohs” and “aahs” as the beautiful pink balloons slowly drifted up into the sky.
